On July 24th at the Nintendo Wii Summer 2010 games at Great Lakes Mall in Mentor Ohio. Josh and TJ competed against competition from three states and out of eighty six teams they were up against they took first. They each had to play two games each and two games together as a team. For coming in first place they each won a four day trip to Los Angeles all expenses paid for them and their two happy moms. They will compete again at the Wii National Summer Games trying to compete against teams from around the country. We wish them both good luck and can say that their martial arts training may have helped their focus, concentration and hand eye coordination. Good Job Gentlemen and Good Luck.

The Summer KIA Points tournament was held on Saturday, July 17, at the Twinsburg KI. The tournament began at 10:00 a.m. Sixty competitors competed throughout the day. The competition was very strong. The mini Peewee division in kata and fighting was exciting to watch. These young karateka are our future leaders. They all gave one hundred percent effort. Watching the young students compete for the first time was a site . They were all very focused and serious about the competition All of the adult level divisions were very competitive . The Brown belt kata division was so close three of the top four places were decided by .01 of a point. You can not get any closer then that. The black belts all showed their skills in kata and weapons but the black belt fighting was their showcase . When all was said and done Sensei Marvin Manalo came out on top beating Sensei Kevin Kita by one point. Excellent job by all competitors. The next KI Points Tournament is September 18,2010 at the Clleveland KI. Do Not miss out.

The annual KIA Kick A Thon was held on June 5,2010 at Strawberry Lane at the Cleveland Metro Park in Willoughby Hills ,Ohio. About 175 KIA Family members and students showed up for the event . The Kick off was very special this year as Travis and his mom & Dad were able to attend our event . This marked the first time in our twenty years that our sponsored family was able to attend the picnic . Make a Wish Foundations representative Ashley was also in attendance and help this all be possible . About 55 kickers lined up to kick off during our hour of kicking heats.

The Cleveland and Munson KI sponsored Ashley $1.00 per kick if she would kick for our cause . She accepted our offer and kicked a whopping 162 kicks adding $364.00 to our total on the year. The kick off was finished up ,but it started over again when Travis showed up .All the karate students gathered together once again to meet and greet Travis and his mom and Dad . We showed Travis a young man of 4 1/2 how to do the kicks and when the time started everyone including Travis was kicking away. The students began chanting Travis-Travis it was a site to see and hear. After the minute Travis was shown some karate by Sensei Stuber the Kick A Thon director and Chief Instructor of the Karate Institute of America . Mitchell Geddis threw Sensei Stuber three or four times for Travis’ enjoyment and entertainment. Then Travis had the opportunity to sweep Sensei Stuber off his feet . Which he seem to thoroughly enjoy. Next Sensei Omar Valentin from the Cleveland Karate Institute and Mitchel Geddis from the Munson Karate Institute showed Travis some high flying Aeriel flips. Travis then joined in our tug of war game. The children against the adults . Needless to say the adults gave it their all ,but the kids won Over and over again.Travis and his family stayed for most of the day as did Ashley . The Karate Institute would like to thank ALL of the students and their sponsors for helping make our event successful. Over the past twenty years the Karate Institute of America has raised over $261,000.00 for the Make A wish Foundation. This years totals are over $10,000.00 with more coming in every day.

On June 18th twenty five KI students started out on the seventy-five mile bike hike from Cleveland Ohio to Kelleys Island. It was a beautiful day for the ride the sun was shining and the air was cool. The hike began at 6:40 am from the Cleveland Karate Institute. Heading down W.115th to Triskett Rd and riding past Grand Master Caraulia’s house . The group headed by Sensei Valentin set their pace and the rest of the group followed . As the hike went on the first group hit the lunch stop at 9:30 am the last group headed by Sensei Stuber followed behind about 11a.m. Overall the group stayed close throughtout the day.We had a lot of first time bikers and they all did an exceptional job. The groupreached their final destination St. James Park ,Marblehead ,Ohio at 3p.m. and crossed over to Kelleys Island on the 3:30 ferry.

I would like to thank the KI Sag wagon drivers for a job well done. They kept track of us and made sure we were taken care of throughout the day . I would also like to thank Master Madry our leader and chase coordinator for getting us there safely . Again Congratulations to all who accepted the challenge and saw what they were capable of accomplishing on the bike hike . From Master Madry and myself I would like to say we are proud of our group of warriors. For those of you who could not make it this year there is always 2011. More on the Summer Games and Black belt testing to come. Stay tuned.
